The Bahrain Women Union, in cooperation with Tamkeen, celebrated the graduation of the 3rd Group of trainees from its “Women Technology Enablement” programme.
Since its launch four years ago, the programme has been a great success, providing training opportunities for more than 900 Bahraini women in five fully equipped training centers. The training included three key components: computer basics, development of personal and professional skills, and distance learning in coordination with the Bahrain Internet Society.
“The Women Technology Enablement” programme helped equips Bahraini women with important basic skills that will facilitate their engagement in the labour market. This is in line with Tamkeen’s objective to empower Bahraini women and enhance their contributions to the private sector and the national economy. We wish the graduates all the best in all their future endeavors,” Tamkeen’s Acting Vice President, Human Capital Development, Amal Al Kooheji, said.
“Through Tamkeen’s assistance, we managed to provide Bahraini women with unique and high-level training opportunities that helped them develop their personal and professional skills,” Bahrain Women Union Board Chairperson, Zainab Najem, said.
“I started off as a trainee for the programme, and after graduating in 2010, I have developed myself further with the skills that I have gained until I became a qualified trainer for the programme myself. I would like to thank Tamkeen and the Union for providing me and many other women with the opportunity to gain vocational and technical skills,” Khadija Hassan, one of the trainees for the programme, said.
The programme is one of more than 100 human development programmes that Tamkeen launched to develop skills of Bahrainis and make them the employees of choice. Twenty four of these programmes were launched in 2012 alone. They include training to develop skills across various sectors, workshops on leadership and entrepreneurship, as well as courses on employability, work ethics, and corporate culture in addition to programmes that support employment, career progression, and professional certification.
More than 47,000 Bahrainis have so far benefited from Tamkeen’s training programmes, including 15,000 in 2012 alone, which represents a 32% increase over 2011. More than 66,000 Bahraini nationals and enterprises have benefited from Tamkeen programmes to date, and the number of beneficiaries is expected to reach 100,000.
