The Chief of Public Prosecution cum Head of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), Nawaf Abdullah Hamza, said that the Unit received during last March 2013 two new complaint reports lodged on account of alleged maltreatment.
The Grand Criminal Court issued its verdict dated 12 March 2013 on the case of death of two victims namely: Ali Isa Ibrahim Saqr and Zakariyya Rashid Al-Asheeri by penalizing two policemen with ten years imprisonment on account of the first incident and acquitted them from charges of allegedly beating the second victim leading to his death.
The Unit opened official investigation dossiers in both complaint reports and, also interrogated seven complainants on various reports, heard testimonies from 13 witnesses and ordered appointing forensic doctor to carry medical examination on four cases in order to determine their injuries (if any) and the cause and date thereof. The Unit also interrogated four public security members accused of various cases.
The Chief Public Prosecutor cum head of the Special Investigations Unit said that the Unit referred one accused person in the rank of first policeman from the special security forces to the Grand Criminal Court regarding the incident of the death of victim Salah Abbas Habib Moussa which occurred on 19 April 2012 at Al-Shakhoora area after the Unit finalized its investigations into the case and demanded penalization of the accused person under Article No. 75 (item 4), Article No.: 107 (item 1) and Article No.: 333 (paragraph 1) of the Bahrain Penal Code. The court decided to consider the said case on 6 May 2013.
