Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ghanim bin Fadhl Al-Buainain led Bahrain’s delegation to the extraordinary meeting of the Arab Ministerial committee in charge of the Syrian Crisis.
Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Shaikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabr Al-Thani chaired the session which discussed Syrian developments in the aftermath of the US-Russian agreement to convene Geneva 2 Conference as part of efforts to seek political solutions to the Syrian crisis.
The ministers decided to send letters to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, the UN-Arab League special envoy to Syria Lakhdar al-Ibrahimi the UN International Security Council permanent members outlining the Arab approach to the political settlement in Syria.
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ghanim bin Fadhl Al-Buainain urged self-restraint and de-escalation to protect civilians’ lives and avert the cauldron of sectarian sedition which may engulf Syria and the region.
He called on concerned regional and international parties to step in quickly in order to avert any dangerous escalation in Syria, stressing the need to create a favourable environment to ensure the success of the upcoming Geneva 2 Conference.
He also voiced deep-concerns over the dangerous military escalation at Al-Qassir City, which left hundreds of innocent people dead, warning against the dangerous repercussions which may result from Hezbollah’s interference in the fighting in Syria.
