The Kingdom of Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the UN Office and Other International Organisations here Ambassador Dr. Yousef Abdulkarim Bucheeri chaired the coordination meetings of the Arab group in the second session of the Preparatory Committee for the 2015 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
Ambassador Bucceeri delivered, on behalf of the Arab group, a statement at the end of the conference, held at the UN headquarters in Geneva from April 22 to May 3.
He backed the statement by the Non-Aligned Movement, expressing full dissatisfaction with the outcome of the presidential document and paper adopted at the conclusion of the conference.
The Ambassador stressed that the conference did not take into account, in a balanced and accurate manner, the dissatisfaction of the Arab group concerning the unjustified postponement of the 2012 conference on the establishment of a zone free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction.
He also requested state parties to adopt a clear position and entrust the organisers of the conference to hold it no later than the end of 2013.
The Ambassador also praised in his statement the efforts of the head of the Preparatory Committee for the 2015 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons throughout their meetings.
The meeting of Preparatory Committee for the 2015 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons is the second to be held and will be followed by a third and final meeting in New York next year ahead of the Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons in 2015.
