In line with the directives of HRH Prime Minister to enhance food stocks and ensure all consumer requirements during Ramadan, the Industry and Commerce Ministry on Monday convened the 35th meeting of food traders at the Ministry premises to ensure the shops preparations for the holy month and review the steps to ensure the availability of goods and maintain price stability.
The meeting was attended by food traders and importers and representatives of food companies and hypermarkets.
The efforts made by backed companies were praised during the meeting in providing all estimated consumption quantities for the holy month. The meeting also discussed ensuring the enough stocks of other items with high demands such as vegetables, fruits, rice, sugar and oil.
During the meeting, the Ministry confirmed the importance of such meetings and joint cooperation between food traders and the Ministry and need to provide all foodstuffs that are high in demand during the holy month of Ramadan, praising at the same time what pursued by the markets of promotions and discounts. The meeting ensured that consumer’s needs are available in large quantities.
In regard of foodstuff subsidies by the government, the General Manager of Bahrain Livestock Company, Ibrahim Salman highlighted that the company coordinates to import more than 40000 sheep after finalising some paperwork.
The General Manager of the Delmon Poultry Company Abdulkareem Al Alawi said the company gets ready to daily supply around 27,000 chickens and the company will work with its highest capacity in the coming phase.
Meanwhile the representative of the Bahrain Flour Mills Ali Numa said that market needs for the company’s products are available in enough quantities that meet the high demands during Ramadan.
The Ministry urged for the cooperation of consumers by reporting trade violations by calling the hotlines of the Consumer Protection Department on 17530096 or 39531888.
The Ministry discussed with the participants aspects of possible cooperation between the major markets and its Consumer Protection Department to sensitize and educate the consumers.
