Minister of Interior, Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid Bin Abdullah Al Khalifa received US Congress delegation including Hank Johnson and a number of members the Humpty Dumpty Institute.
Shaikh Rashid welcomed the visit of the delegation which comes in consolidating the cooperation relations between Kingdom of Bahrain and U.S.
Minister of Interior briefed the delegation on the effort of the Ministry of Interior to strengthen the human rights and providing all forms of the required protection in the light of the comprehensive reform project of His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa.
The Minister stressed the civilized approach in addressing the problems through the choices that are based on the respect for the principles of human rights, which has been reflected on the grounds through dealing with the recommendations of Bahrain Independent Commission for Inquiry (BICI).
Meanwhile, Ministry of Interior has gone beyond implementation of the recommendations of (BICI), where it contained them within a comprehensive strategy for development and modernization of which the ministry is working on applying and implementing them in accordance with specific objectives and programmes.
On the other hand, the Ministry has established the Office of Ombudsman, and the implementation of plans and programmes to promote the principles of human rights through the support of international experts specialized in this area, as well as the integration of a number of citizens from all governorates in Police Community Service.
The ministry also installed CCTV Cameras to provide audio and video recording in the interrogation rooms and detention centers.
During the meeting, a brief was presented to shed light on the strategy of the Ministry of Interior in the development and modernizing of all security sectors through intensive training and preparation with the latest equipment, techniques and openness to the experiences of advanced countries in the world.
Shaikh Rashid highlighted that during the last period; the police forces followed the maximum restraint, and remained committed in their performance to the application of the law and all international standards of human rights despite being exposed to many terrorist acts.
The meeting was attended by Major General Khalid Salem al-Absi, Undersecretary of Ministry of Interior, Director General of the Ministry’s Court, and Secretary General of Ombudsman, as well as the ministry’s security adviser.
