Municipalities and Urban Planning Affairs Minister Dr. Jumaa Ahmed Al-Kaabi stressed the vital need to protect sea resources and preserve fish reserves for the present and future generations.
He underscored of promoting food security stressing mounting global challenges and upheavals, growing demand and galloping demography.
Dr. Al-Kaabi was addressing a key forum under the theme: “Food Security and the Future of Fisheries.
The ministry organized the event in cooperation with the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Investment Programme the Organsation of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the Economic Development Board (EDB).
Dr. Al-Kaabi stressed the pivotal role of the private sector in spearheading sustained development as well as instrumental contribution to the ministry-led projects in the sectors of marine resources and fisheries.
He underlined Bahrain’s strategy to pass necessary legislations for the protection of marine resources, launching a string of projects aimed at promoting aquaculture.
He also paid tribute to His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa for his directives to promote maritime resources and support fishermen as part of efforts to achieve food security and the millennium development goals.
OECD President Carl-Christian Schmidt and MENA Investment Centre board of trustees’ chairman Zakaria Hijris also addressed the forum.
