The Kingdom of Bahrain permanent representative to the UN Office and its relevant agencies in Vienna, Ambassador Dr Yousef Abdulkarim Bucheeri, met with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) Director-General, Kandeh Yumkella.
He conveyed to him the greetings of the leadership and government of the Kingdom of Bahrain, presenting to him a letter from His Majesty the King on the means of bolstering cooperation between the Kingdom and UNIDO.
Yumkella praised Bahrain’s rich history, heritage, hospitality and its adoption of modern environmental initiatives as well as in having a central role as a main commercial hub in the Arabian Gulf region, which makes it a favorable destination for many investors and businessmen.
He said that Bahrain plays a vital role in reducing carbon emissions and toxic gases at the regional and global levels by harnessing green technology to carry out healthy sustainable development between governments or establishments in the private sector.
The permanent representative expressed his thanks and appreciation to the UNIDO Director-General for the developmental and active role of the organization in encouraging sustainable industrial development in the Kingdom of Bahrain as well as encouraging investment and the exchange of expertise between them.
He also praised the participation of Yumkella, personally, for two years in a row in the Bahrain International Garden Show, and the promotion of the exhibition through a network of UNIDO offices to promote investment in a number of countries across the world.
This is in addition to contributing to the preparation and organising of a number of specialised workshops that are based on the exchange of international, regional and local expertise on modern technologies in the agricultural field.
Yumkella had visited Bahrain last March, during which he met with His Majesty the King and Her Royal Highness wife of His Majesty the King as well as a number of officials.
He attended the launch of the Green Lifestyle Project – health, wellness and fitness projects – as well as the launch of the Arab International Centre for Entrepreneurship and Investment in the Kingdom.
During the visit, discussions were held on ways to enhance cooperation and coordination between Bahrain and the UNIDO at all levels by providing programmes and projects that contribute to strengthening the development process in all countries as well as establishing security, stability and peace in the world.
At the end of the meeting, Yumkella expressed his keenness to continue the cooperation between the UNIDO and the Kingdom of Bahrain to boost economic, trade and environmental activities in the region as well as achieve the aspired goals to promote the development process in the country.
The UNIDO is a specialised UN agency, based in Austria, and aims to promote and accelerate industrial development in developing countries and others with economies in transition, as well as promote international industrial cooperation.
