In cooperation with the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), the German Embassy with the support of the German Federal Foreign Office, and DW Academy, organize a Media Forum under the title – “Women’s Portrayal in Arab Media”
In line with the Supreme Council for Women’s objective to improve the image of women in the media in terms of their contribution to society as an equal in building a sustainable competitive society, and as the Supreme Council for Women aims to be a center for expertise in the area of support and empowerment of women, this forum has been organized in cooperation with the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany and DW Academy. This initiative was started to set up a network of women journalist in the Gulf Region.
The event organized under the title “Women’s Portrayal in Arab Media” takes place from May 13-15 2013 at the Kempinski Hotel. Participants of this forum will include women journalists from the Kingdom of Bahrain and all other GCC countries.
DW Academy is Deutsche Welle’s centre for media development, media consulting and journalism training and is committed to promoting diversity of opinion around the world.
In this regard, the Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Women, Hala Al-Ansari, welcomed in her office today, at the Supreme Council for Women, Sabine Taufmann, German Ambassador in the Kingdom of Bahrain, along with Dr. Kathrin Steinbrenner, Counselor at the Federal Foreign Office in Germany, and Constanze Abratzky, from DW Academy.
The Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Women emphasized the importance of the Council’s support for such events which contribute to achieving the overall objectives of the Council; being the official body concerned with women’s issues in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The opening of the forum will include speeches by Hala Al- Ansari Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Women, a speech by Dr. Kathrin Steinbrenner, Counselor at the Federal Foreign Office in Germany, as well as a speech by Constanze Abratzky, DW Academy. There will be lectures by Dr. Jihad AlFadhel, Shura Council Member, Huda Salman, as well as speakers including Suha Matter, Dr. Shaikha Khaldiah Al-Khalifa from Bahrain University, and media specialist Abeer Sadi.
