The Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Women, Hala Al-Ansari welcomed a delegation from the European Parliament (EP) and European Union, led by MEP Dr. Angelika Niebler, on the occasion of their visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain in the presence of MP AbdulrahmanBumjayed and the Kingdom’s Ambassador to Brussels Ahmed Al-Doseri.
The Secretary General gave a brief on the role of Supreme Council for Women led by Her Royal Highness Princess SabeekaBint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King, President of the Supreme Council for Women in supporting the development and empowerment of Bahraini women.
She had referred to the National Strategy for the Advancement of Bahraini Women which is considered the first strategy of its kind in the region to be approved by His Majesty the King and what has been achieved over the last 12 years since the establishment of the Council.
The Council’s efforts in enforcing the concept of mainstreaming women’s needs into developed through equal opportunities were also highlighted during the visit as well as showing the various methodologies in accomplishing the desired goals of the National Plan which have include programs, initiatives, awards that have contributed directly to boosting the status of women in the country.
Dr. Niebler praised the efforts exerted by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King, President of the Supreme Council for Women in what has been accomplished for Bahraini women in light of the support shown by His Majesty the King.
She had also commended the Council’s leading role in finding suitable empowerment programs for women, whether at the political, economic or social and family stability level, expressing her contentment, to the high level of professionalism the Council had reached that had enabled Bahraini women to attain decision-making positions, which include representing Bahrain in many international organizations.
The delegation has been visiting the Kingdom of Bahrain from April 29-May 1 2013 to discuss the current situation on human rights, economic issues and further areas of cooperation with the Gulf Cooperation Council in coordination with the Council of Representatives.
