Dr. Jameela Mahmood, the Founder of Mercy Malaysia, and first winner of the Isa Award for Service to Humanity lauded the vision and commitment of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for embarking on a lone journey in the entire Muslim world to recognise the people who share suffering of others.
Dr Jameela, who 14 years ago decided to embrace a challenge of serving people in need, said that this initiative would encourage people to come forward and help people affected by natural or man made disasters.
She applauded HM the King’s decision to establish the award which is the first of its kind in the Gulf and Muslim world, saying that innovation is clearly demonstrated in Bahrain’s leadership and forward thinking. She pointed out that her humanitarian action stemmed from solidarity and responsibility to ensure the rights of those who are faced with crises and strengthen them beyond aid and relief. She added that MERCY Malaysia organization’s goal is to influence all sectors to play a role in and beyond humanitarian assistance while focusing on reducing vulnerability to crises, whether they are conflict or natural hazard related.
Dr. Jameela expressed thanks and appreciation to HM the King and the people of Bahrain for their warmth and hospitality.
