In an anticipation of the new laws introducing curbs on expatriates seeking driving licenses, long queues have been witnessed at Traffic Directorate making it difficult for officials to entertain thousands of applicants every day.
Deputy Director-General of Traffic Colonel Mohammed Rashid Al Nuaimi said on Wednesday that the department was witnessing a big rush of expatriates applying for a driving licence.
He said this had led to long queues even though the Driving Licence Directorate worked from 7:00am to 8:00pm.
He said there seemed to be a misunderstanding about the new draft law on traffic and the mechanisms to obtain the driving licence prompting people to try to get a licence as soon as possible. He said the draft law was still going through the legislative procedures and was yet to be ratified.
He urged all those wanting to have their papers processed by the department to take advantage of its long working hours and reduce pressure on its staff as well as the waiting period for themselves.
