GCC states continue in developing a suitable work environment to create more work opportunities, and achieve decent work measures in accordance with the international labour standards either for the national labour or for the contracting or expats, according Bahrain’s Labour Minister.
With the participation of Ministers of Labour and representatives of production parties in the member states in the International Labour Organization (ILO), and in presence of the Director General of the Organization, Guy Ryder, a conference is now being held in Geneva, where Minister of Labour, Jameel Bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan delivered a speech.
Minister of Labour presented a brief about the achievements and experiences of the GCC states in the areas of labour, training, recruiting, ensuring labour rights, and developing the community partnership between the three production parties.
Minister of Labour, who is chairing the current session for the Council of Ministers of Labour in the GCC states, called (ILO) to address all the issues through the continuous coordination between the three production parties in each state, and support the trust and positive cooperation between them. He also called on asserting that the tripartite principle, but rather means cooperation and consensus and not disharmony and spacing to achieve stability and prosperity for all, taking into consideration the stage of economic and social development experienced by each state.
With regard to Kingdom of Bahrain, Minister of Labour said that since the conclusion of the last session of the International Labour Conference, the government has taken advanced steps in various labour fields. In August 2012 His Majesty the King issued the labor law in the private sector, which includes more protection provided to workers, and developed a new pioneering initiative to include domestic labour with law.
Minister of Labour said that the government continued its efforts in the development of the training and employment programmes, aimed at addressing the kinks in the labor market, of which made it maintain unemployment rates in the range of 4%. He also said that Bahrain witnessed the launch of a number of projects and initiatives that have made the labor market overcome difficulties and achieve stability and a considerable growth in healthy and productive atmospheres.
Minister of Labour lauded the efforts of the Director General of (ILO), stressing that the reforms he has made are coping with the current and future developments required by the global labour trends and shifts in the field of decent work, asserting GCC states’ support of those reforms.
Jameel Humaidan highlighted that the report of the Director General of (ILO) for this year came in line with addressing the challenges and changes witnessed by the world, praising the initiatives contained in the report, and pointing out that they are in course of reinforcing the community and comprehensive humanitarian role of the organization.
Minister of Labour expressed the GCC states willingness to provide all the support and assistance for the organization to reflect those initiatives on the ground out of the GCC keenness on the ongoing modernization and development for the policies and procedures that ensure achieving the greatest amount of the organization’s objectives.
Humaidan stressed the importance of the continued coordination between the three parts of production inside each country to achieve the desired development goals.
