The Minister of Labor, Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan on Tuesday chaired the meeting of GCC Labor Ministers with Director General of the International Labor Organization (ILO), Guy Ryder.
GCC Ministers commended the vital role played by the (ILO) in creating balanced relations among production parties, and pointed out the GCC countries’ contribution to providing job opportunities, approximately 15 million jobs, through which more than $80 million is transferred.
Director General of the Executive Bureau of the GCC Labor Ministers Council, Aqeel Al-Jassim, said the Ministers stressed promoting a balanced approach to labor issues that arise in the corridors of the (ILO).
He added the Ministers pointed out that the GCC countries seek to comply with international labor standards and aim to play a key role in supporting the ILO through continuous communication with the organization and production parties, and lauded the Organization’s efforts to overcome the crisis experienced by Bahrain.
ILO Director General praised the role played by the GCC countries in providing job opportunities, stressing the need to continue hard talks based on mutual respect between the parties, adding the organization has been on the lookout for the situation experienced by the region, stressing technical support will be provided for the Gulf States in the area of labor, in addition to promoting the regional office for the Arab States (Beirut office) to provide better serves for GCC countries.
