His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister met the Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden in the Roosevelt Room of the White House, as part of his official working visit to Washington D.C.
During the meeting, HRH the Crown Prince thanked the United States for its enduring partnership with Bahrain and its support to the Kingdom’s programme of reform under the direction of His Majesty King Hamad, which was initiated in 2001 through the National Action Charter (NAC).
He said that the NAC represented a comprehensive national political vision, which is informing enhancements to state institutions, improvements in public service delivery and the promotion of individual rights.
HRH the Crown Prince went on to outline how ongoing reforms were contributing towards greater freedom of expression and democratic participation.
HRH the Crown Prince emphasised that the ongoing national dialogue is a core component in the Kingdom’s political development and that, by securing consensus, it will lead to a more united, prosperous future for Bahrain. He stressed that refusal to embrace dialogue, coupled with tacit or active support of violence would only serve to undermine the pursuit of progress.
He reaffirmed the importance of all concerned parties to unequivocally condemn the use of violence and to actively engage in the dialogue.
Vice President Biden stressed support for Bahrain and America’s shared interest in Bahrain’s security, stability and reform and welcomed Bahrain’s continuing reform programme which he said was essential and timely, while noting along with HRH Crown Prince the need for further progress.
He underscored that the United States condemns violence inside Bahrain and continues to stand by Bahrain and its partners in the Arabian Gulf.
HRH the Crown Prince and Vice President Biden then explored further ways to bolster the bilateral relationship, while also touching upon relevant regional issues of mutual interest and concern.
