Information Affairs Authority (IAA) and Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on preserving and archiving historical and documentary films in the framework of the sustainable cooperation between the authority and all the state’s ministries and institutions.
The signing of the memorandum was in presence of Minister of State for Information Affairs, Samira Bint Ibrahim Bin Rajab, and the Deputy CEO of Refining and Marketing at Bapco.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the President of (IAA), Ali Mohammed Al-Rumaihi and the Director-General of Human Resources and Administrative Affairs at Bapco, Engineer Ghassan Al Mihanna.
Marking the occasion, the Minister said that those records document an important era of the Kingdom’s history, which is full of achievements through the past decades, and highlights the great contributions accomplished by parents and grandparents in the development and progress course witnessed by Kingdom of Bahrain, stressing that those records form a cultural tributary that the next generations benefit from.
The President of IAA said that the agreement aimed at transferring of an estimated range of 350 historical footage items recorded on films of 35 mm and 16 mm by the authority to the new digital system, to save and archive them at the television’s library at (IAA) to maintain them as visual historical heritage for Kingdom of Bahrain. He highlighted that BAPCO used to keep those old records that have been filmed between 1940 and 1974 with its media archive.
The President of IAA also expressed his great thanks and appreciation for the officials at (BAPCO) for their good efforts in preserving those valuable records across the past years in the company’s archive, highlighting that the authority will do its great efforts through its advanced devices in reviewing those films, and archiving them with the desired quality.
The Deputy CEO for Marketing and Refining Ibrahim Taleb expressed his great thanks for the Minister of (IAA); lauding her sincere efforts in developing and elevating the media work in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Al Muhanna asserted that signing the agreement between IAA and BAPCO is a reflection of the two sides’ keenness to document and save those films to be a witness of the fruitful efforts done by the past generations for the prestige and progress of Kingdom of Bahrain.
