A Bahraini suspected of causing the “Seef Flyover” horror crash on Thursday has been taken into custody pending investigation. The suspect will appear before the court in an urgent trial to face charges, Traffic Prosecution Chief Hussain Al-Bouali said.
The Prosecution interviewed the suspect and charged him with drink-driving, causing the death of two young women and leaving a third in a critical situation. Appearing before the Public Prosecution, the suspect denied the charges leveled against him, blaming the accident on a burst tyre.
The accident happened early Thursday morning at the level of “Seef Flyover on Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway. The General Directorate of Traffic reported the tragic crash to the Public Prosecution for an inquiry to be launched into the causes of the accident.
The investigation revealed that a Bahraini driver, under alcohol influence, was driving his car in an inebriate state and heading to Hamad Town. The suspect suddenly lost control of his car which hit the concrete central reservation at the right side, leaving a pile of soil behind it.
A Bahraini woman was driving her car in the same direction, with two other young women on board, and decided to move to the left lane only to be surprised by the accident.
In her attempt not to plough into the damaged car, she moved to the right lane and hit the concrete barrier before moving again to the far left side. The car hit the metallic barrier and got entangled before falling off the flyover, causing the death of the two women passengers while the driver was rushed to hospital in a critical situation. The Public Prosecution conducted a forensic investigation on the site of the accident, including a video of the crash filmed by a surveillance camera.
