A number of participants, during a workshop organized by the UN Economic and Social Commission for West Asia (ESCWA)’s Directorate of Public Administration and Development on the theme ‘More participation in the post-2015 development plans’ agreed that rational governance and citizenship and sound relationship between citizens and State based on the principle of mutual trust to enable citizens participation in State institution’s business and at the same time help a State to meet its obligations.
This came during workshop participants’ discussion as part of the 2013 UN Public Service Forum hosted at the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) for the purpose of boosting knowledge , building a common understanding between active partners on the issues of governance, identification of strategies, practices and tools which can be adopted by member countries in self-assessment regarding engaging citizens in their country’s development, and identification of the role of tools in boosting participation and surmounting challenges of sustainable development within the context of post-2015 development.
The workshop also included the exchanging of ideas, expertise and lessons learned from mutual governance, engaging citizens in the process of administrative development, with special focus on the Arab region.
