Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ghanim bin Fadhl Al Buainin, met with, in the presence of Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Abdullah Abdullatif, ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions to Bahrain to inform them about the recommendations of the National Council’s extraordinary meeting which convened yesterday to discuss stepping up sanctions on the perpetrators of the terror acts in Bahrain.
He asserted the importance of the extraordinary session which is in line with a royal order to discuss toughening up punishment included in law 58 for 2006 concerning protection of the society from terror acts.
He affirmed Bahrain’s resolve to confront decisively the dangerous escalation which targets Bahrain’s stability as per the legal procedures and recommendations of the legislative power.
He stressed that the recommendations resulting from yesterday’s session were a realistic response to the Bahraini people who are fed up with the mounting terror acts in their country although terror is denounced and renounced by all religions and humanitarian principles what so ever the motives and justifications behind it are.
He stated that among the most important recommendations submitted to His Majesty the King is the issuance of law-decrees in the absence of the parliament to toughen up sanctions in the Terror Law to deal with urgent situations that require no delay to preserve national security and stability. Other recommendations include revoking the Bahraini citizenship of the perpetrators of the terror crimes, drying up all funding resources of terrorism and banning sit-ins, rallies and gatherings in Manama. The aim, he explained, is to promote civic peace in the Bahraini society which has always been characterised by religious tolerance and co-existence since the antiquity.
He noted that the recommendations do not target a particular social component or sect but only the perpetrators of the terror acts and their instigators.
The State Minister for Foreign Affairs informed the ambassadors about the National Council’s recommendation concerning commitment of members of the diplomatic missions to no interference in Bahrain’s domestic affairs in line with the international law and conventions. He pointed out the need for all the diplomatic missions to cooperate with the Foreign Ministry in this regard.
On their part, the ambassadors lauded continuous cooperation between the Foreign Ministry and the diplomatic missions, wishing the National Dialogue every success in attaining its objectives and underscoring condemnation of all terror acts in Bahrain.
