Minister of State for Information Affairs, Samira Bin Rajab, and the official spokesperson of the Government stressed that freedom of media and society cannot be achieved without ensuring the achievement of security, highlighting that there is no neutral media in the world, and there is no media that works for the homeland in all democracies.
In her speech during the Ramadan Ghabga of Bahrain Journalists Association, last night, the minister added that “This is a principle understood by all democratic countries and is also practiced without talking about it, but we are in need to clarify here, that when the state loses security, it actually loses its freedom, and what is promoted of being biased to fight against our country is unrealistic.”
The minister also stressed that Bahrain enjoys a high level of freedoms and has legislations that protect these freedoms and journalists, and said “We will work on developing these legislations to provide greater protection for freedoms and journalists, and therefore we have to do a high performance, and know how to practice the profession of media with all credibility.”
The minister reinforced that “The most important issue in such practice, of which she calls for in all the media forums, is searching for what is called media security, and how to preserve our national security during practicing the media work.”
The Minister expressed her great aspirations that the Bahraini journalist’s body maintains its elevation to match the Gulf and Arab press, pointing out that the role of the ambitious and great strategy the ministry has lately announced for is achieving such elevation.
It’s worth mentioning that Ministry of Information Affairs announced last week its five-year strategy (2013-2018) which aims at the rehabilitation of information and communication sector and develops it in a comprehensive manner to be a source of regional, and Arab radiation.
The Minister also pointed out that the strategy aims at enabling the information and communication sector to play a role in promoting national unity and reform in Kingdom of Bahrain, and the consolidation of security and stability in the country, and raising awareness and knowledge in the community as well as informing about the reform project of HM the King and the government’s achievements and its active performance.
