The Minister of Transportation, Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, visited the GPIC Complex, on Monday where he was accorded a family reunion welcome by the President of the GPIC Abdulrahman Jawahery and senior executives.
Minister Kamal Ahmed, who was accompanied by delegation of senior officials of the Ministry, took pride while visiting the GPIC Complex where he got grooming as young, energetic and talented officer.
The Minister highlights the importance of GPIC’s eagerness to strengthen its role in community development and the company’s devotion to establish communication with officials in the public and private sectors, to consolidate a broader perspective to its economic success.
The Minister and the accompanying delegation were greeted upon arrival at the company’s complex by Abdulrahman Jawahery, President of the company, as well as members of the Executive Management and a number of company officials.
Jawahery conveyed the greetings of Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Advisor to HRH the Prime Minister for Industrial and Oil Affairs and Chairman of GPIC, expressing the thanks of the company’s Management for the cooperation of the Ministry of Transportation in promoting the work of the company on all levels, in particular in follow-up actions on the implementation of the company’s projects, a splendid example of coordination, cooperation and integration between the private sector and the government.
The Minister and the accompanying officials were then briefed on the vision and principles of the company and its management systems, as well as the programmes offered by the company which aim to care for and preserve the environment. The GPIC President also briefed the distinguished visitors the company’s activities in the field of social partnership, such as support for charities and the community and the provision of training opportunities for employees of local universities and educational institutions and training institutes, as well as their support to the Crown Prince’s International Scholarship Programme as well as the programme run jointly with the Ministry of Education for Environmental Research, which GPIC sponsors and funds on an annual basis and the support for global conferences held in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the accompanying exhibitions and specialized workshops.
The Minister of Transportation and his accompanying delegation then listened to a detailed explanation of the company’s operations and achievements in the fields of production and quality, the environment and occupational safety and health, production and export as well as the training programmes and activities offered by the Academy of Leadership and Learning.
H.E the Minister then honoured a number of employees deserving of awards before touring the company’s facilities and factories, where he expressed his delight at the factories and projects interwoven throughout the complex in a breathtaking reflection of the harmony possible between industry and the environment. This was illustrated in particular by the tour through the Princess Sabeeka garden of aromatic plants and medicinal herbs set up by the company to preserve rare medicinal herbs which have been used in the past for therapeutic purposes.
To mark the occasion of his visit, the Minister planted a palm tree in the gardens of the company, and then continued thereafter to view the charity fish farm set up by the company to contribute to the conservation of marine wealth, through the release of thousands of fish to deep water after breeding in ponds.
The Minister of Transportation expressed his deep pleasure at the pilot projects set up by the GPIC within its large industrial complex, pointing out that the company’s experience in this regard proved the viability of a marriage between industry and the environment and the capacity to reduce negative effects that may result from industrial processes.
The Minister hailed the success of his visit to the company, describing it as an opportunity to exchange views on areas of cooperation between the two sides and to contribute to promoting the success of the company, which is characterized by its contribution to the national economy as well as providing jobs for many Bahraini technicians and engineers. H.E noted the high levels of Bahrainisation within the company, in addition to providing leadership positions to Bahrainis.
The Minister of Transportation said that the visit constituted a good opportunity for him to see at close quarters the great success achieved by the Gulf’s leading industrial organisation, which is a model in terms of its operations, its distinctive products and the implementation of the best programmes and management systems as well as the training and development of employees. Besides a remarkable commitment shown to apply the highest standards of quality and safety, the Minister reserved special praise for the company’s surprising and impressive environmental projects.
He also thanked Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Advisor to H.R.H the Prime Minister for Industrial and Oil Affairs and Chairman of the company, expressing great appreciation to the President of the company and members of the Executive Management team for their warm reception and generous hospitality, wishing the company and those who have made it what it is today even more success and excellence in their future projects.
Abdulrahman Jawahery, President of the company, extended thanks and appreciation to the Minister of Transportation for accepting the invitation to visit the company, noting how the efforts of his Excellency and other transport sector officials have contributed to developing the system of transportation in the Kingdom, one of the main pillars upon which the development the nation as well as having a large impact on promoting convergence and social cohesion in all its forms, stressing at the same time that the transportation sector is one of the most vital sectors, an essential element of the attractions that contribute to investment in the economic development process in the Kingdom.
The President of the company also recalled that the Minister of Transport was once a member of GPIC’s family, a source of great pride for everyone in the company, to remember how his efforts contributed to boosting the company and its development. The President concluded by hoping to continue such communication and mutual visits for the benefit of the Kingdom and its booming economy, which is based on solid foundations, thanks to the support of the national leadership.
