The Acting Chief Prosecutor of Muharraq Governorate’s Prosecution, Hussain Mirza said that the Public Prosecution has received a communication from the Police Directorate of Muharraq Governorate indicating that a group of detainees at the Dry Dock detention center were involved in rioting in one of the detention wards and destroyed its contents. He said that the incident made the police forces to engage, restore security and regain control over the situation.
Upon receiving the communication, Public Prosecution took the necessary measures to investigate the incident by questioning the security guards at the detention center, who unanimously agreed that some cell-phones were seized inside one of the wards when it was inspected by an officer and members of the police.
The Acting Prosecutor also said that upon the inspection, and seizing the cell-phones, the detainees attacked the officer and the members of the police accompanying him, which led to injuring them, as the medical reports indicated, as well as removing the doors, and destroying some electrical appliances in the ward, which made the police force to engage and retain control over the situation.
Public Prosecution called on the forensic doctor to examine the members of the police force who were injured to detect those injuries and report the causes of them and how they occurred.
Public Prosecution also questioned the accused on what they have committed.
The Inspector-General at the Interior Ministry said that a group of inmates remanded in custody rioted and vandalized the facilities of the detention centre and prevented the security personnel from performing their duties.
He said the relevant security forces were urged to intervene, dealt with them accordingly and to brought the situation back to normal.
