Based on the annual trend, the travel movement significantly increases at BIA during the festive season. Number of passengers starts to increase three days prior to Eid day, and continues its’ growth up until the fourth day of Eid Al Fitr.
Vice President of Airport Operations at BAC Mohammed Mohamed Thamir Al Kaabi related the increase to the holy month of Ramadan falling in the summer and dividing the summer vacation to two parts, whereby Eid Al Fitr break represents an ideal chance to travel and enjoy the holiday prior to the start of a new academic year in September.
Al Kaabi confirmed that the vast majority of passengers boarded on flights heading to Dubai, Doha and Kuwait. As for international destinations, the Far East countries, Turkey, and the usual European destinations such as London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, as well as Washington have proven popular this season.
“We are committed to providing safe and convenient travel experience, especially during the busy seasons. This would not have been possible without the cumulative efforts of our staff and partners in the private and public sectors, which I extend my thanks and gratitude for their hard work in dealing with the hike in passenger numbers in a friendly and professional manner,” he added.
BAC is the authority responsible for operating and managing BIA as a world-class airport. As part of its operator role, BAC is responsible for elevating the airport’s infrastructure and services. This set to improve the Kingdom‘s aviation capabilities; and to cater for the growing number of passengers as well as the changing demands of BIA stakeholders.
