Dr. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has received Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Ali, President of the IDB Group in Makkah Guest Palace.
The Nigerian Vice President has commended the developing relations between the IDB Group and his country and efforts exerted by the IDB to support socio – economic development plans and programmes in Nigeria. He has also applauded the IDB’s efforts in member countries generally and the attention accorded to the African continent in particular.
The president of the IDB Group explained in details to the Vice President of Nigeria the relations between Nigeria and the IDB and the projects under implementation there.
The discussion covered arrangements made for the implementation of number of projects approved by the Bank for Nigeria and the on-going efforts that aim at establishing a representation office in Nigeria. Discussion also touched on issues related to the IDB’s role in supporting the Transformation Agenda Progamme in Nigeria, which pursues the realization of comprehensive and common growth in a number of sectors that include projects such as electricity transmission lines between Nigeria and neighbouring countries such as Benin, Niger and Togo, regional road network connecting Nigeria and Cote d’voire, establishment of national roads and railway network, development of ports and civil aviation industry, milling and storage of rice, development of private sector projects in aluminum smelting, partnership between private and public sector in energy and supporting exports.
The IDB Group President thanked the Vice President of Nigeria for the cooperation shown by his country towards the IDB, affirming the Bank eagerness to develop these relations further and exert all efforts to contribute towards supporting the development priorities in Nigeria. The IDB President has offered to organize an investment conference in Nigeria early in 2014 similar to a conference organized by the IDB last year in Abuja. The Vice president of Nigeria welcomed this initiative.
