Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) marked the end of the airport’s Safety Week, which was held this year under the theme “Foreign Object Debris: Pick up to make a difference” during the period between 22nd and 26th of September 2013. The event is a leading initiative designed to educate airport’s staff about world-class measures that ensure safety of employees and travelers alike, while maintaining operations’ efficiency.
BAC achieved significant milestones towards the reduction of Foreign Object Debris, whereby the company managed to reduce Foreign Object Debris found in the apron by 46% in 2013. Foreign Object Debris is any object that does not belong in or near airplanes and, as a result, can injure airport or airline personnel and damage airplanes. It was estimated that Foreign Object Debris costs the aviation industry $13 billion every year.
Airport’s Safety Week 2013 witnessed a remarkable turnout this year, as at least 70 airport employees participated in the various activities each day. In addition to attending presentations showcasing the ideal methods of dealing with Foreign Object Debris, the week-long campaign included educational games raising awareness of key health and safety measures. Thanks to the following organizations who contributed in delivering the various programms: the Civil Aviation Affairs, Bahrain Airport Services, Bahrain Aviation Fueling Company (BAFCO), Bahrain Duty Free, Gulf Air, DHL, Royal Air Force (RAF), VELOSI Safety Team and ALBA.
