The Kingdom of Bahrain and the Peoples Republic of China on Monday in a joint communiqué highlighted the importance historic ties between both countries and their progress since the establishment of diplomatic ties 24 years ago. Both sides emphasised readiness to continue bolstering bilateral links for their common interest.
A concluding statement was issued on the occasion of a visit by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to China, from September 14 to 16, at an invitation by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
They pledged support for each other regarding issues pertaining to vital interests. Bahrain stressed support to China’s policy and government efforts to reunite the country. Meanwhile, China reiterated respect to Bahrain’s independence, sovereignty and territorial unity, stressing opposition to foreign interference in its domestic affairs. It also voiced support to Bahrain’s efforts to maintain its national stability and affirmed the need to ensure a Middle East free of weapons of mass destruction.
Both sides also expressed readiness to continue broadening the scope of bilateral cooperation in various economic, trade, infrastructure, financial, cultural, tourism, educational, health, media and sport fields.
They also agreed to maintain cooperation regarding regional and international issues and boost coordination at the United Nations and other multi-party gatherings to protect the interests of growing countries.
They expressed satisfaction at the deep and comprehensive development of relations between China and the GCC countries recently, considering that in harmony with joint interests and keenness on global peace, stability and development.
They emphasised the need to hold the strategic dialogue between China and the GCC countries as soon as possible. Bahrain, being the president of the current GCC session, voiced readiness to press ahead with the GCC-Chinese cooperation.
Both sides also underscored the strategic location of the Middle East and the Gulf region. Therefore, maintaining security and stability there is in tune with joint interests of the countries in the region and the international community.
Both sides underlined the need to work out just solutions for crucial regional issues and achieve permanent security and stability through dialogue and peaceful means.
Many agreements and Memoranda of Understanding were signed by both countries in various fields and China is ready to include Bahrain as a favourite tourism destination for the Chinese people.
Both sides expressed satisfaction at the outcome of the visit of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to China and its impact on further bolstering bilateral relations of friendship.
HM the King expressed thanks and appreciation for the warm welcome and hospitality and presented the Chinese President with an invitation to visit Bahrain.
The Chinese President thanked HM the King for the invitation.
