His Royal Highness the Prime Minister, Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, chairing the cabinet session on Sunday said the visit of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to the United Kingdom emphasised the depth of the Bahrain-Britain relations.
State Minister for Information Affairs and the official spokesperson of the Government, Sameera Rajab told weekly media briefing that HRH Premier said that the visit indicates the strength of the relations between the two countries, she told journalists at the press conference after the weekly cabinet.
His Royal Highness also urged the ministers to adopt necessary measures to reduce traffic congestion in front of ministries and asked them to facilitate, speed up and develop the services offered to the citizens in line with the Bahraini traditions, the spokesperson said.
Minister Rajab added that the cabinet also approved and referred to the legislative authority the draft law on posts presented by the Deputy Prime Minister, the President of the Ministerial Committee for Legal Affairs. The draft law aims to implement a comprehensive regulation for postal services, so as to enhance its growth and develop the services it offers to corporates and individuals.
The president of the committee, said the spokesperson, added that the law would be in line with the best private laws on posts.
The Cabinet approved and referred to the legislative authority a draft law on mental healthcare. The draft law will regulate the environment of mental healthcare, said the spokesperson. She added that it would guarantee an acceptable level of care, define the rights and obligations of those benefiting from such care in addition to identifying protocol for the police to deal with the mentally ill. The law would also identify practices for dealing with those involved in investigation, indictment and trial and facilitate dealing with cases related to mental healthcare.
Avoidance of double taxation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Kingdom of Thailand and between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Government of Hungary was discussed and approved by the cabinet, she said
The memorandum was presented by the Deputy Prime Minister, the President of the Ministerial Committee for Legal Affairs.
The Cabinet also approved the memorandum presented by the Minister of State for Follow-Up on establishing a regional centre in the Kingdom for the governance of the public sector and good management practices, the spokesperson added.
The project aims to establish a comprehensive national vision in the field of governance and ensure compliance with international standards. Exchange of expertise and knowledge in the area of governance and nurturing national Bahraini leaders in the field of governance and good management practices were reviewed, she said.
The Cabinet also approved the memorandum on live animal trade between the Kingdom of Bahrain and Australia, presented by the Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning and approved its signing, the minister said.
“The memorandum discussed the results of the discussions held between Bahrain and Australia on resuming the import of live animals from Australia. It also looked into the signing of the accord by both parties. The memorandum discussed the plan of the ministry in protecting the Kingdom from animal-borne diseases,” she added.
