The Kingdom of Bahrain which has witnessed major strides in the development of the telecommunication sector and ensuring world calls broadband and next generation network known as NGN were discussed during the two-day ITU Workshop opened on Tuesday.
Hosted by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) Bahrain and organized by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), to elaborate on all issues related to the development of Broadband Networks and Services.
The workshop titled ‘new trends for building and financing broadband: Policies and Economies’ was addressed by Dr Slaheddine Maaref, ITU Regional office in Cairo. Dr Slaheddine highlighted the importance of Bahrain’s success in telecom sector and lauded the steps were taken by the TRA in spearheading the liberalisation of the telecom sector. He said the workshop offers a great opportunity to learn about Bahrain’s successful model and how to replicate the broadband success in other countries.
TRA Chairman, Dr. Mohamed Al Amer addressed the participants in his welcome speech, stressing the importance of continuously adapting and evolving in an ever changing Telecommunications sector and the significance of hosting progressive events such as this in the Kingdome of Bahrain.
“It will give an understanding of the impact of Broadband on socio-economic development and thus the need for a Broadband policy leadership and strategy. It will be an opportunity to share experiences on how Broadband services contribute to sustainable development,” he said.
The Workshop will also address the role to be played by the regulators and the necessary adjustments to make on regulations to boost the development of the Broadband, and will conclude on the 25th of September.
