President of the Information Affairs Authority (IAA) Ali Mohammed Al-Rumaihi has asserted that preparing and rehabilitating national media cadres and providing quality job opportunities for youths from both sexes are essential of the Strategic Media Plan, given their importance in upgrading the media message and ensuring its keeps abreast of the political and media openness environment guaranteed by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s pioneering Reform Project.
Al-Rumaihi was speaking during the concluding session of the comprehensive training course organised by IAA’s Training Centre for the students of Bahraini universities.
A total of 29 students from the University of Bahrain and the Kingdom University benefited from the course in which professors and media experts from brotherly Arab countries lectured.
He explained that such specialised training sessions are in line with IAA’s keen desire to provide youth graduates with the needed media skills and professional expertise that facilitates their access to the labour market, adding that they can be hired by IAA, as part of an ambitious plan to encourage Bahraini youths to join official media in the kingdom.
He pointed out that the course included preparing and presenting radio and TV programmes, editing and reading news, montage of news reports and directing TV shows, expressing IAA’s desire to hold more similar courses in cooperation with Arab and international media institutions so as to upgrade the performance of Bahraini media.
He added that upon directives from the Minister of State for Information Affairs and the Official Spokesperson of the Government, IAA has prioritised upgrading the competence of its media cadres and ensuring their knowledge of the latest developments in the fields of information, communication and information technology.
He said that the establishment of an academic centre for journalists and media and communication persons is among the most important initiatives and programmes featuring in the Media Strategy (2013-2018).
IAA President honoured the trainees and presented them with appreciation certificates, thanking all those in charge of the course.
