Director-General of the Arab Labour Organization (ALO), Ahmed Mohammed Luqman praised Kingdom of Bahrain’s experience in addressing unemployment and controlling its harmful effects, in addition to providing social security to the Bahraini citizen, who seeks job.
Ahmed Mohammed Luqman considered Bahrain’s experience in the insurance system against unemployment as one of the successful and pioneering Arab experiences which reinforces social security.
Luqman asserted that Bahrain is one of the advanced countries in dealing with the foreign labour, highlighting that the Council of GCC Ministers of Labour has a major role in achieving full cooperation and coordination in all labour and social areas between the member states and with the Arab and international organizations.
Luqman also pointed out that Bahrain could reduce the unemployment rates, and succeeded in addressing such phenomenon and control its harmful effects, in addition to providing all types of security and support for unemployed people through the advantages ensured by the insurance law against unemployment, or through the recruitment and training programmes and projects, which provide a decent living for citizens.
Luqman also highlighted that in the ALO, they are proud of what Bahrain has achieved of applying the insurance system against unemployment, which is considered a completion of the social security system in the Kingdom through participating in providing a fund which helps unemployed people and their families to have a decent living during the unemployment period.
In addition, Bahrain has a programme to eliminate poverty, and cancel the “Sponsor’s System” for the foreign labourers in the Gulf area, where the foreign labourer can be transferred to another sponsor without the consent of the first main employer.
Luqman also lauded the cooperation between ALO and Kingdom of Bahrain in the recruitment and providing social security for the workers and job seekers, and said that Bahrain is an active member in the ALO, and participates in all the activities of the organization, as well as chairing the Board in the 37th session in 2010.
Luqman also said that they never forget the 3rd Arab Conference on Occupational Safety and Health held in Bahrain in 2008, which formed an important platform to care for occupational health and safety in the Arab region.
Luqman also said that they should not forget the three parts of production, the 37th session for the Arab Labour Conference held in Manama in March 2010, which formed a remarkable sign in Arab action through consensus, where the Arab contract was adopted for employment. They ratified the Arab Strategy for occupational and technical training and education, and approved on the importance of cooperation in the issues of occupational training and insurances.
Luqman said all the heads of the delegations of the governments, employers, labourers and himself were honoured with meeting HM King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the Prime Minister, HRH Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa.
Luqman said that HM the King astonished them with his deep thought, and great knowledge on the reality of labour market, in spite of being greatly occupied, and encouraged them for more Arab cooperation for the service of the Arab nations.
