Bahrain’s telecommunication trends are keeping well with the global growth of information technology. The Kingdom has achieved the eighth highest growth rate on the Information and Communications Development Index (IDI).
The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) ranked Bahrain third in the Arab region and 39th in the world on the Information and Communications Development Index (IDI2012). The updated data featured in the ITU’s flagship annual report “Measuring the Information Society 2013”. The Measuring the Information Society (MIS 2013) report identified Bahrain among countries which have made the most progress when it comes to ICT development.
The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) released its fifth report Measuring the Information Society (MIS-2013) early this month. The ITU’s Measuring the Information Society report is the most comprehensive statistical and analytical report on the shape of ICT markets worldwide.
The annual (MIS) report, which ranks 157 countries worldwide, adopts two industry benchmarks for technology development- The ICT Development Index (IDI) and the ICT Price Basket (IPB), which spans economies and combines the average cost of fixed-telephone, mobile-cellular and fixed-broadband Internet services. Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) Chairman Dr. Mohammed Al-Amer hailed the advanced international and Arab rankings, describing the landmark achievement as source pride for Bahrain.
