LONDON: Prime Minister David Cameron’s announcement of launching a maiden $320million sukuk in his speech at the WIEF 2013 has generated global interest among many including one of the world’s major economies like Japan.
“The overwhelming success of the 9th World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) in London can be judged from many record breaking things including the Prime Minister David Cameron’s announcement of sukuk launch,” Tan Sri Fuzi Abdul Razak Secretary General of WIEF Foundation, on the final day of three day conference told The24X7News.
For example, he said, following the announcement by the Prime Minister David Cameron to launch the first sovereign sukuk Japan shows keen interest how to benefit from the Islamic finance, one of the growing segments of the global economy.
“The Japanese delegation at the WIEF shows the growing acceptability of mode of Islamic funding through shari’ah compliant bonds or known as sukuks. This is am matter of clearing the perceptions about Islam in general and about products and services in particular,” he said.
“This is exactly is WIEF’s goal, to share the information and expertise with non-Muslim world and Prime Minister David Cameron’s emphasis on inviting investors to avail opportunity that exists for the Islamic finance in UK,” he said.
Apart from the Forum every year, he said, WIEF organises roundtables in various countries on specific which has been also very successful and result-oriented.
Talking about the success of the WIEF 2013, he said that the record number of world leaders, record number of delegates representing record number of countries has been a great success.
This 9th edition of WIEF, he added, has raised the bar both in terms of participation and content for the organisers and we will try hard to make the 10th Forum in Dubai to be a bigger or at least of this size.
“The UAE is one of the best destinations to host events of great scale and we hope that it will be a great event. As the London conference is yet to conclude we have already discussing about the 10th edition in Dubai.
“The upcoming event in Dubai is also 10th anniversary and we want see it as a great Forum and Dubai has very great infrastructure facilities and this will be an added point going there,” he said.
