Muharraq’s Acting Chief Prosecutor Abdullah Al-Dossary said that the 4th Grand Criminal Court today articulated its verdict against four convicts implicated in the attempted murdering of an Asian worker in Al-Dair area. The court sentenced all four convicts to life imprisonment.
Al-Dossary added that the annals of the case date back to 17 March 2013 when the four conspired to deliberately target policemen and residents, prepared homemade explosives stuffed in metal tubing they planted at the entrace of Al-Dair Village sandwiched in-between large boulders.
When the victim saw the tube he tried to extract it from the rocks in order to clear the street but unfortunately the tube exploded in his hand and he fell down due to a serious injury for which he had to be shifted to hospital to receive treatment. He had to undergo a surgical procedure which necessitated the amputation of the fingers of his injured hand.
The competent security authorities exerted efforts in tracking down, investigating and identifying the culprits. A permit was obtained from the Public Prosecution to arrest them. Upon interrogation, two of the suspects confessed their crime. However, the other two implicated accomplices are still at large.
The Public Prosecution charged the suspects with attempted murder of the victim and policemen and causing an explosion with the purpose of scaring unwary people and manufacturing and acquiring of a bomb for the purpose of implementing acts of terror.
Al-Dossary pointed out that the Public Prosecution charged the four suspects in the case reliant upon available evidences from their confessions, from testimonies of eyewitnesses and from technical and forensic reports.
