The second regional conference on border security opened in Rabat, Morocco.
Foreign ministers from countries across the Sahel and North Africa and officials from regional and international partners and organisations are attending the conference which seeks to look for ways to boost border security.
The event follows-up the first regional border security conference, which was held in Libya on March 11-12, 2012.
The delegations discussed ways of implementing the “Tripoli Master plan” which aims at reinvigorating regional cooperation in North Africa and the Sahel region, beefing up security and combating terror and organized crime, including drug and weapons smuggling and illegal migration.
The delegations will issue the “Rabat Declaration”, featuring proposals and recommendations aimed at beefing up border security in North Africa, the Sahel and the Sahara through a strategy integrating the political, operational and developmental facets.
