Batelco has emerged the first telecommunications company in the Kingdom and the Middle East to expand its activity in Information Security after the three units, namely e-Services, Retail Operations and DataCentre, received ISO 27001 certification.
Bahrain’s leading telecommunications company has been presented with three new ISO Certificates in Information Security (ISO 27001) following a thorough and vigorous auditing process conducted by Certification Bureau Veritas.
A number of Batelco teams, headed by the Information Security team, worked together to complete a comprehensive process to meet all requirements required by Certification Bureau Veritas auditing team.
Batelco considers its customers’ data vital and this has driven the company to expand its security activities in departments that take care of its customers’ data. This in turn assures customers that Batelco applies the global Information Security standards in implementing its daily transactions.
Batelco Bahrain GM Human Resources and Corporate Services Suhaila Alnowakhda, who deputised for Batelco Bahrain CEO Rashid Abdulla, received the ISO 27001 certificates from the Chief Executive of Certification Bureau Veritas in the Kingdom, Zulfiqar Haider, at a ceremony held recently at Batelco headquarters in Hamala. A number of Batelco executive and senior managers and the participating teams, including Information Security team and Risk Management team, attended the ceremony.
Receiving ISO 27001 confirms that Batelco takes information security seriously. Batelco has Information Security Management System that applies the best practices in information security management in compliance with ISO 27001 standards and accordingly, Batelco’s customers’ data is protected in line with these international standards.
Alnowakhda said that Batelco excels in Telecom market in terms of customer data protection, noting that the certificates highlight the fact that the Company’s practices in this field are the best.
“Our customers deserve full care and provision of complete security for their data. We are committed to our customers’ data confidentiality in all our operations,” she said.
Zulfiqar said that the achievement made by Batelco through meeting ISO 27001 standards reflects the serious commitment of Batelco’s senior management and the continued efforts by the company’s teams aiming to achieve this goal.
“This success wouldn’t have been possible without the senior managements’ commitment. This means Batelco’s interest was not confined to dealing with customers’ data with high confidentiality, but also to ensure – via an independent body – that its approach in dealing with customers’ information is in line with the international standards,” he added.
“This accreditation will give further confidence to customers in the Kingdom and abroad that Batelco, through its business units is taking care of customers and is applying and owning information systems capable of maintaining satisfaction for its customers and all key players in the telecom market,” he said.
