The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Secretary-General, Adviser Dr. Ahmad Farhan Abdullah, announced that the NIHR will launch a strategy and action plan for the years 2013-2016.
He noted that the new strategy is based on five themes, including developing the NIHR’s efforts in protecting human rights, strengthening NIHR’s efforts in the field of legislative development, launching a national program on human rights education, launching a specialized program in the field of promoting citizenship and supporting human rights values and reinforcing cooperation at the national, regional and international level.
NIHR’s Secretary-General explained the new strategy aims to disseminate human rights culture, educate individuals on the fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution, national legislations and international conventions and to broaden connection with the national, regional and international human rights organizations.
He added seminars, training workshops and conferences will be held within the new strategy to cover human rights issues, providing advises on legislative issues, in addition to receiving complaints and monitoring human rights violations and taking corrective action through communicating with the relevant official bodies.
