Winners of Nasser bin Hamad Sport Scientific Research have been honoured. Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) Chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) President, Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, partronised the ceremony at the headquarters of the Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation.
SCYS secretary-general and award board of trustees’ chairman Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa attended the event along with other officials. The $50,000-prize has been granted jointly to Ahmed Mubarak Salem and Dr. Mervat Amin Desooqi who ranked first, topping all the contenders.
The laureates competed in the sport management category, conducting two researches themed “Sport and Youth Endowment Management in Bahrain” and “Proposed Sport Club Investment Strategy”.
Award secretary-general Dr. Abdulrahman Sayyar addressed the event, stressing the importance of scientific research as a key pillar of progress and sustainable development. He paid tribute to Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa for initiating the award, as a catalyst to promote sport and youth in Bahrain.
Under instructions from the patron of the ceremony, the award has been expanded to take a pan-Arab dimension. An award dedicated to young researchers in the sport field will also be launched. Another prize will also be established to acknowledge outstanding sport Arab researchers.
A film highlighting the award was shown, and then Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa honoured the two laureates Ahmed Mubarak Salem and Dr. Mervat Amin Desooqi. He also honoured Manea Ahmed Manea, Ali Yusuf Sleibeekh, Dr. Faisal Hameed Al-Mulla and Dhikrayat Ahmed Noureddine who took part in the contest.
Gulf Petrochemicals Industries Company (GPIC) director-general Abdulrahman Jawaheri and members of scientific committee were also honoured. Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa was presented a commemorative award shield. The patron of the award distribution ceremony also presented SCYS secretary-general and award board of trustees’ chairman Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa with a commemorative shield.
Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa stressed the crucial importance of scientific research to enhance sport and youth movement. He paid tribute to the researchers who competed in the first edition of the award – describing the event as a promising beginning which augurs well for the future of the prize.
