His Majesty, King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa, on Friday received at Al-Sakhir Palace UN Undersecretary–General and Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Yuri Fedotov and UNODC Regional Office for the GCC countries Hatem Fuad Ali.
HM the King welcomed the UN official, stressing strong cooperation bonding the Kingdom of Bahrain and the UN agencies in all economic, social and developmental fields. He commended the UNODC-led efforts to combat drugs and crimes as well as programmes aimed at staving off these scourges.
He also reiterated joint keenness on bolstering cooperation and ensuring optimal benefit from the UN expertise in combating drugs and crime. HM the King paid tribute to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and his assistants for their efforts to bolster security and stability, consolidate global peace and contribution to settling international problems.
He also emphasized the crucial role of the UN agencies in extending humanitarian aid and services to poor and disaster-hit people, financing projects and achieving development in all countries in the world.
HM the King reviewed with UN Undersecretary–General ways of enhancing cooperation between Bahrain and the United Nations in all sectors. He also extended greetings to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, wishing the United Nations success in its efforts as well as constructive and fruitful initiatives to serve all humanity.
