In line with the directives of HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad it was confirmed on Tuesday that eight employees have been suspended at a number of different ministries and government authorities for non compliance of audit rules.
This was announced during a meeting chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister where follow up of the National Audit Court (NAC) report was discussed.
During the meeting, the Executive Committee reviewed follow up on the latest decisions made in light of His Royal Highness’ directives to transfer cases of non-compliance to the public prosecutor, and to suspend eight employees at a number of different ministries and government authorities.
The committee also looked at ways to establish an internal auditing system within government departments, based on the principles of transparency and accountability, which form key pillars to the reform and development programme initiated by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa. In this context, His Royal Highness emphasised that the creation of an effective internal auditing body alongside work to enhance transparency helps the overall development of the country.
The committee went on to review the directions set by the working group charged with addressing issues and shortcomings raised in the NAC report, including steps aimed at improving the performance of departmental committees and policies within government bodies.
In chairing the meeting, His Royal Highness confirmed that the commitment of the Executive Committee to taking the appropriate steps to address issues raised in the NAC report covers not only ensuring accountability and adequate scrutiny, but also incorporates measures to prevent such irregularities from recurring in the future.
