Supreme Council for Women (SCW) praised the resolution of the Cabinet led by His Royal Highness, Prime Minister, Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, to approve the draft law on the amendment of a number of provisions of the 1963 Bahraini citizenship Law on granting Bahraini citizenship to the children of the Bahraini women married to foreigners under certain terms and conditions.
The aforementioned draft law will be passed to the legislative branch in accordance with the constitutional and legal procedures.
SCW’s Secretary-General, Hala Al-Ansari, said the decision is positively reflected on the stability of the Bahraini family and women’s access to the right of passing their citizenship to their children according to certain controls, pointing out the SCW in collaboration with competent authorities have taken into account women’s interests to agree with the National Action Charter and the Constitution of the Kingdom of Bahrain with regard to achieving the family’s security and stability, in addition to maintaining the State’s sovereignty and obligations to the international level to go along with the recommendations of the Human Rights Council and the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).
She expressed the SCW’s keenness to follow up the discussions on the amendments and lauded HM the King’s orders on granting 2634 citizenships to Bahraini children since the SCW’s inception.
