MANAMA: Minister of Health Sadiq bin Abdul-Kareem Al-Shehabi received a high-profile delegation of British medical experts and discussed with the level of co-operation and exchange of expertise in medical and research fields.
The Minister welcomed the delegation comprising medical experts who will advise the Ministry on sickle-cell anemia diagnostics and treatment techniques. Their visit to Bahrain comes for the purpose of doing research studies and advising on techniques to develop and upgrade the Hereditary Blood Disorders Centre and health services related to hereditary ailments and to train Bahraini doctors.
Britain has a considerable expertise gained from its hospitals experience with 20 cases of sickle-cell anemia patients from African origin over the past two decades.
The team of medical experts will meet with consultants, specialist physicians, nurses and technicians in the Blood Disorders Centre (BDC) slated to be inaugurated next week. The British team requested several documents and information about the current situation of sickle disease in Bahrain in order to be able to understand the current situation and to add their expertise in order to enrich Bahrain’s experience and to make the Blood Disorders Centre (BDC) one of the best world-class medical facilities in this field.
The meeting was attended by MOH Undersecretary Dr. Ayesha Mubarak Bu Unq, Assistant Undersecretary for Hospitals Affairs Dr. Amin Al-Sa’ati, SMC Medical Consultant Professor Mohammed Nafi’e, Training and Planning Advisor Zahra Habib, BDC Administrator Ali Darwish, Chief of Nursing Staff at BDC Shehzalan Fadhul and Acting Director of PR and International Relations Department Anissa Al-Houwaihi.
