MANAMA: Bahraini leadership’s keenness yields in positive results on First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) and President of Bahrain and the West Asian Athletics Associations Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa extended congratulations to Bahrain leadership as well as SCYS Chairman and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa on Bahrain National Athletics Team’s groundbreaking achievement in the Asian Cross Country Championship which was hosted by Japan.
The Bahraini athletes were crowned overall champions, thus maintaining their last Asian title clinched in 2012 in China.
Shaikh Khalid described the accomplishment as the dividend of the leadership’s continuous follow-up and support to the youth and sport momentum in Bahrain. “It is also a logical result of the support accorded by Shaikh Nasser to the Bahraini sport, in general, and athletics, in particular,” he said.
He added that clinching first place in the Asian championship and beating most of the runners is an assertion of the advanced level of the Bahraini athletics which achieved honourable results recently.
“The new achievement will serve as an impetus for the Bahrain Athletics Association’s Board of Directors to bring about other accomplishments and boost Bahrain’s status on the world sport map.”
The Bahraini national team grabbed first place after winning 5 medals comprises two gold medals, one silver and two bronze.
