MANAMA: A parliamentary bloc today stressed the importance of respecting the National Action Charter, which was approved by a sweeping 98.4% in a landmark popular referendum.
The National Independent Bloc commended the principles endorsed in the charter, extending congratulations to His Majesty the King, His Royal Highness the Premier, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander and all Bahraini people on the 13th anniversary of the National Action Charter.
The bloc urged all parties to put the vital national interests’ above all sectarian, ideological and external affinities, being the only viable path to ensure the success of the third dialogue round and continue the march of reform and modernisation in a constitutional monarchy. The National Independent Bloc includes MPs Abdulrahman Bumjeed, Hassan Al-Dosary, Ibtissam Hijris, Khamis Al-Romaihi and Latifa Al-Qaoud.
In a statement, they hailed the anniversary which, they said, represents a defining national day to consolidate democracy, bolster the rule of the law, state constitutions under the reform project. They paid tribute to HM the King for his far-sightedness, launching the National Action Charter as a pioneering roadmap for political and democratic reform on February 14, 2001.
They hailed the landmark strides achieved since the inception of the charter, citing constitutional amendments, the establishment of the bicameral system, judicial independence, the constitutional court and the National Audit Office, in addition to adopting an open economic policy. They paid tribute to the wise leadership for its keenness on overcome the aftermath of the security challenges, embarking on a national dialogue initiative engaging all parties.
They also hailed commended the persistence in implementing the recommendations of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) recommendations, endorsing constitutional amendments, amended laws, supporting national reconciliation and promoting human rights.
The bloc called on all political and social forces to revive the spirit of the National Action Charter and commit to national unity so as to protect Bahrain’s security stability and sovereignty.
They urged respect of the constitutional legitimacy and the renunciation of violence and terror, stressing the need to avoid misusing religious platforms and the media in spreading rumors and inciting on hatred.
The commended the initiative of HM the King who assigned HRH the Crown Prince to supervise the third round of the National Dialogue. The Independent Bloc slammed the stance of certain extremist parties who urged foreign interference in Bahrain’s internal affairs.
