Tata Communications, a leading provider of A New World of Communications, has been awarded the Best Carrier Ethernet Business Application title at the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) Carrier Ethernet Awards for the Asia-Pacific region. In its second year as the Official Connectivity Provider of Formula 1, this prestigious award recognised Tata Communications’ ability to deliver world-class connectivity to all Formula 1 race locations over its network – the largest privately-owned global network. .
The move to Tata Communications’ fibre optic global ring of super-fast cables has given Formula One Management access to a tenfold increase in connectivity capability worldwide. This has benefited the Formula 1 community as Formula One Management has extensive responsibilities in delivery exclusive content to businesses and consumers over the Tata Communications global fibre network.
Tata Communications’ global network also opens the door for endless possibilities in sports video distribution. Using fibre, broadcasters have the opportunity to manage content and transfer data in ways not possible via satellite, creating options for future innovations. In 2013, Tata Communications successfully showcased the next generation of video distribution capability by relaying JPEG 2000 content from the race track at Singapore directly to Formula One Management’s Biggin Hill headquarters in the UK. The live video feed was sent using Tata Communications’ Video Connect service over a Dedicated Multipoint Ethernet service in what was Tata Communications’ first live video contribution demonstration for Formula One Management and a group of leading broadcasters.
“Cutting edge connectivity and content delivery are critical business drivers for Formula 1. I congratulate Tata Communications on winning this award as it recognises its achievements in this field,” John Morrison, Chief Technical Officer, Formula One Management, said.
“As we are about to embark on our third season with Formula 1, the recognition of our work together during the 2013 season is a testament of Formula One Management’s vision to push technical boundaries that deliver an immersive digital experience for the millions of fans worldwide. Looking ahead, we’re excited about the possibility of using our fibre network to support innovate new means of delivering live-race content globally,” Mehul Kapadia, Managing Director F1 Business, Tata Communications, said.
Tata Communications’ Ethernet Services in APAC have been recognised by numerous independent organisations around the globe. Most recently, it was cited as a leader in Forrester Research, Inc.’s The Forrester Wave: Asia Pacific Carrier Ethernet Services, Q4 2013.
