The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the Commission Catherine Ashton strongly condemned the bomb blast that occurred on Monday in the village of Daih in Bahrain, resulting in the death of three policemen and serious injuries to a number of other law-enforcement officers.
“A solution to the current difficulties in Bahrain can only be found through constructive and peaceful dialogue. I urge all Bahrainis to unequivocally condemn violence, as has been done by the National Democratic Opposition Parties in Bahrain”, she said, offering sincere condolences to the families of the victims.
The EU official called on all parties to work towards a swift resumption of national dialogue without preconditions, building on the initiative of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister. She described the initiative as the only way to build bridges towards lasting national reconciliation by addressing the legitimate of the Bahraini people and advancing the current reform process.
