HAGUE: The Secretary-General discussed Syrian crisis with His Majesty King Abdullah II Bin Al Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
The Secretary-General and King Abdullah discussed nuclear security issues and emphasized the importance of intelligence-sharing and international cooperation in order to counter terrorism with the highest impact.
The Secretary-General and King Abdullah agreed on the gravity of the situation in the country and the negative impact on neighbouring countries.
The Secretary-General expressed his appreciation for Jordan’s consistent support to Syrian refugees and stressed the critical importance of humanitarian assistance reaching those in need. They also discussed the prospects for the Geneva talks on Syria and stressed the urgent need to find a political solution. The Secretary-General and King Abdullah also highlighted the notable progress of the joint UN-OPCW mission to eliminate chemical weapons in Syria.
