MANAMA: The 1st two-day Jordanian Australian Neurosurgical Conference opens on 27th April, at Jordan University of Science and Technology and King Abdullah University Hospital under the auspices of Prof. Abdullah Malkawi, the President, to discuss the latest advances and updates in brain and spine surgeries.
“We are happy to organize this conference, which everyone worked hard to become a reality aiming to create channels of communication with Australian medical institutions and nucleus for further horizons of cooperation between Jordan and other friendly nations in different parts of the world at all levels and of scientific areas and transfer of modern technologies in the world in the fields of brain surgery, and spine,” Dr. Mohammed Barbarawi, a brain and spine surgeon, the chairman of the conference, said.
Dr. Barbarawi added that the conference hosts a group of the best experts in the world of neurosurgery, especially from Australia, Germany, Jordan to offer a valuable opportunity to share their experiences in a way that would reflect positively on the medical services provided to patients in Jordan and region.
“We are very proud to see among us fathoms scientists such as Prof. Michael Morgan CEO of University Macquarie/ Sydneyand Dr. John Christie from Newcastle University to meet with other famous figures who had their effects on the progress of neurosurgery from Germany represented by Professor Peter Horn and Professor Joachim Oertel and Dr. Tarek Kanaan all in the hospitality of Jordan University of Science and Technology and the esteemed group of famous advisers of Neurosurgery , researchers and students studying medicine.
Dr. Barbarawi explained that the conference program on the first day includes keynote speeches and lectures, followed by a workshop relating to the latest findings of science in spine surgeries using modern technology of endoscopy and small cuts that would be more effective than traditional surgery, less hospital stay, lower cost and lower complications. The second day will have workshop on minimally invasive brain surgeries by using endoscopic keyhole craniotomy for removal of brain surgeries, this, of course, will be guided by prof. Charles Teo and Dr Darweesh Al Khawaja.
Dr. Barbarawi announced that they will be conducting surgeries performed for the first time in Jordan and will be transferred live from the operating room for audience to be a database can be referred to by specialists, also they will be using modern techniques and experience of visiting doctors to carry out operations for patients who were on the waiting list.
