MANAMA: His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa on Tuesday commended the ILO decision on dropping charges against Bahrain on labour issues.
HM King received at Safriya Palace Labour Minister Jamil bin Mohammed Humaidan who presented him with a briefing on the efforts of Bahrain’s delegation to the International Labour Organisation (ILO)’s meeting held in Geneva.
The Labour Minister also briefed HM the King on constructive cooperation with all national, regional and international parties to project Bahrain’s real image and achievements which resulted in a decision by ILO on March 26 to drop charges against Bahrain leveled in the aftermath of February and March 2011 incidents.
HM the King commended the efforts of the Bahraini delegation and the Labour Minister in serving their nation and upholding Bahrain’s good reputation through collective work, wishing all every success.
The Labour Minister extended thanks and gratitude to HM the King for his keenness, valuable directives and constant follow-up. He said Bahrain’s internationally-recognised achievements in the labour field are a reassertion of the sound approach anchored by HM the King which is based on co-existence and tolerance among all the Bahraini people.
He also praised the royal keenness to protect the rights of all workers in Bahrain-be they Bahraini or expatriates, lauding the unflinching follow-up and support of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister.
The Labour Minister also thanked all those who contributed to the achievement, stressing that ILO’s decision to drop the charges against Bahrain paves the way for more focused efforts on new development projects in the labour market to keep the unemployment rate low, further activate the Insurance Against Unemployment scheme, boost trade unionism, improve the work environment, strengthen community partnership and promote confidence among social partners.
The Labour Minister lauded the high sense of responsibility of employers, represented by Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), and workers, represented by the General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions (GFBTU), and their cooperation to ensure success of the national efforts to overcome hardships and maintain the comprehensive development march spearheaded by HM the King.
