MANAMA: Developing the ports and maritime market continues to serve as a vital economic pillar as well as linking Bahrain to the global economy, according to the Minister of Transportation.
Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, Minister of Transportation and Acting Chief Executive of the Bahrain Economic Development Board urged all stakeholders to continue their co-operation amongst each other in order to ensure high quality standards and professional port services.
The Minister was addressing a ceremony marking the 5th anniversary of APM Terminals Bahrain, operators of the Khailfa Bin Salman Port (KBSP).
The Minister paid tribute to the importance of the operations of APM Terminals Bahrain, which he confirmed had a positive reflection on the development of Khalifa Bin Salman Port, adding that the positive steps in this sector in the future will bolster the economic development of the Kingdom.
The Minister thanked the leaders of APM Terminals Bahrain for their efforts in serving the maritime industry, stating that the Kingdom looked forward to the company’s significant role in enhancing the efficiency and productivity of Bahrain’s port by implementing the plans and strategies in co-operation with the Ministry of Transportation to support this sector.
Marco Neelsen, Chief Executive Officer of APM Terminals Bahrain, touched upon highlights of the five years operation of APM Terminals at the Khalifa Bin Salman Port.
He appreciated the co-operation and support the company gets from the Ministry of Transportation expressing its role in helping the company achieve its operational objectives and in realizing its long-term vision to promote Bahrain’s maritime sector.
“The company will continue to implement its development plans regarding operational and technical aspects, using modern technology and high performance equipment, to maintain its reputation as a company offering high quality services and using its extensive experience to connect Khalifa Bin Salman Port with the shipping destinations of the region. Bahrain is in a good position to be a leading commercial and economic country in the region. APM Terminals Bahrain continuously supports its employees in pursuing academic qualifications and provides necessary training to develop their skills and maintain high service levels,” he said.
APM Terminals Bahrain is a joint venture with YBA Kanoo Holdings of Bahrain. Established in 2006, the company provides port operations and related services within Bahrain and its coastal waters, as well as inland services. The Hague-based APM Terminals provides the infrastructure for the growth of international trade, 90% of which travels by sea. The company essentially designs, builds, manages, and operates ports, terminal facilities, and inland services. It operates a global terminal network that includes 20,000 employees in 68 countries with interests in 70 port and terminal facilities and over 170 inland services operations.
APM Terminals Bahrain is a joint venture with YBA Kanoo Holdings of Bahrain. Established in 2006, the Company provides port operations and related services within Bahrain and its coastal waters. Kanoo is a longstanding partner in the Middle East of the A.P. Moller ‐ Maersk Group.
