MANAMA: The Cabinet on Sunday discussed and approved the memorandum presented by the Deputy Prime Minister, President of the Ministerial Committee for Services and Infrastructure on the development of mass transit sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Samira Ibrahim bin Rajab, the Minister of State for Information Affairs and Government’s Official Spokesperson, during the post Cabinet meeting briefing at Gudaibia Palace told reporters that the process of developing the sector consists of five basic elements.
Develop and expand the network of mass transit to serve all areas and governorates; put out to tender the need for a new mass transit system operator; develop the facilities needed such as stations, depots and bus stop locations and create the legal framework and the necessary legislations to regulate the road transport sector.
The Cabinet discussed and approved a number of proposals submitted by the Council of Representatives; namely to establish a special sports club for the mentally disabled and to compel the company in charge of public transport buses to build bus stations that protect bus users from extreme weather conditions.
